My room is a lush sanctuary, adorned from top to bottom with a vibrant array of succulents and blossoming house plants. While the greenery adds undeniable beauty, it presented a challenge each time I acquired a new plant, as every available surface was already occupied, leaving little room for adequate sunlight. Frustrated by the lack of aesthetically pleasing and budget-friendly plant stands on the market, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
Determined to create a functional yet stylish solution, I meticulously outlined my design specifications: the stand had to accommodate at least eight plants, provide ample light on both the top and bottom shelves, be self-standing, facilitate efficient watering, and seamlessly match the aesthetic of my bed frame. Armed with these criteria and restraints, I translated my vision into a CAD mockup for designing and measuring.
With materials from my 'church', Home Depot, and the power tools generously provided by my dad, I transformed poplar wood and 3/4 and 1/2-inch copper piping into a customized plant stand. The final product not only fulfilled my design requirements but also featured underside lighting and a distributed watering system. Now, my room boasts not only a thriving collection of plants but also a bespoke plant stand that seamlessly integrates with the overall decor.
